This design is a concept on the subject of Mobility for the RIMOWA Design Prize: Compact emergency stretcher for rescue operations under geographically demanding conditions.
The foldable emergency stretcher, tailored for rescue operations in challenging geographical conditions, seamlessly integrates unparalleled mobility with efficient functionality. Sporting a compact and foldable design, its minimal packing size serves as a strategic advantage, enabling rescuers to swiftly reach the scene without the encumbrance of bulky equipment. Conveniently carried in a bag or worn as a backpack, the stretcher leaves the rescuers’ hands free for crucial tasks. Upon reaching the scene, it can be effortlessly prepared for use in just a few simple and rapid steps.
To enhance stability and safety during transport across rough terrain, the stretcher features air cushions that can be rapidly inflated using carbon dioxide cartridges. These cushions envelop the injured person, provide a secure hold with additional anti-slip fabric and minimise the impact of uneven surfaces. For an additional layer of security, straps can be employed to restrain the injured person during transport, providing reassurance to both rescuers and the casualty.
This versatile stretcher finds application in a diverse range of scenarios. In mountainous terrain, it becomes a vital tool for saving lives when hikers or climbers require assistance. On the beach, where conventional stretchers with wheels face limitations, the emergency stretcher proves its efficacy, thanks to its exceptional all-terrain mobility. Even in densely populated environments, such as festivals, where access is inherently challenging, the stretcher’s flexibility allows for quick and efficient navigation through the crowd.
Beyond ensuring the prompt and effective rescue of casualties, the emergency stretcher significantly enhances rescuers’ ability to access hard-to-reach locations, especially because of its compact transportation size. The lightweight design and user-friendly features make it an indispensable tool in emergency situations, elevating the overall mobility and effectiveness of the rescue team.
